Wedding Planning

Post #2 in one day after no posts in 6 weeks, maybe it will snow!! LOL

So we are hot and heavy into wedding planning. Yep, we know it is still over a year away but when you plan to do most everything yourself to help cut costs it is good to get a headstart.

I have been wanting to try this for a while now but just haven't done it. Cait's wedding gave me the perfect excuse to give it a whirl and for the first one I am really satisfied with it. Yep, I learned a couple things that I should do different next time but overall it turned out great! So enough with the yapping what is it huh??? LOL Well, I saw a while back someone made candles using stamped images and I was intrigued. I started researching it and found it was actually a pretty easy process, especially if you stamp your image and not try to print it out. I took a plain white candle from Michael's for the base. I stamped this adorable image that Jeff bought me because they wanted wedding invitations (coming up next) made with them onto tissue paper with my Memento ink. I flipped the image over and carefully colored it in - trick to getting a richer color is to NOT color the image when it is laying on something absorbent - another sheet of paper is where my mistake was made - because the tissue paper is so thin it goes straight through. So I tried to retouch the color by holding the image up and using the very tip of my Copic's to reapply color. Once you get your image colored trim around it but not all the way to the lines as you need a little excess to make it set right. Place the image onto the candle with the colored side to the candle and make sure it is lined up where you want it. Take your embossing tool or even a hair dryer that gets pretty warm and head the candle around and over the image so it "melts" into the candle. The tissue paper doesn't really melt into the candle but the warm wax just absorbs into the tissue paper creating the visual that the image was stamped onto the candle. Here's my first ever candle doing this, like I said, not perfect but workable!!!

And then we have the decorations on the bottom. Boy did I not even see that gigantic hole until after I uploaded the pics to my facebook and decided to heck with it, I wasn't gonna go fix it and repost, I'd just change it for the next one:

Now for the exciting part!!! The image is a Magnolia image that Jeff bought me (I think I already mentioned it) so they could have their invitations made with it. I stamped it and colored with my Copic's and then scanned it and reprinted it to test and see how the color would show up so I didn't have to hand color EVERY invitation - I am quite content with the first try at this. Today Cait and I hit the ONLY scrapbook store that is left in Albuquerque other than Michael's, JoAnne's or Hobby Lobby and found this Basic Grey paper which goes good with their colors - yellow and blue. We came home and I went to work making my first prototype and we are really thrilled with it. I do want to give a couple other designs a go including adding stitching to it but for tonite this is what we have (the date/time/location is not set yet just wanted something to work with):

Of course the final invitations will not be so bulky because they will be mailed. I will substitute flourishes cut on my Cricut for the pearl flourishes and paper flowers for the flower bunch so it isn't so bulky to mail.

While I was thinking of what to do I went to the Just Magnolia site to see what the challenge this week happened to be and lucky me, its a sketch by Donalda!!! I love sketches and it was the perfect sketch for the invitation front. Secret Crafter issued a challenge for It's a Couple Thing which was perfect for this card as well!!! And.....since Stamp Something's challenge is Cute Somethings I thought this fit the bill there too!!! So, this trial invitation is for the challenges at these blogs!!!

OK, off to bed as Cait and I have the New Mexico Wedding Expo to attend tomorrow and I had a sleepless night last night so I need to get my beauty rest!!! Speaking of beauty (BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) I took a pic this morning of my self because I've been down and out with the flu for the last 9 days and today was the first day that I felt human so here's an updated pic with long, unruly hair!!! If anyone knows of a GOOD hair dresser here in ABQ please hook me up!!!

New Year Started Without Me!!

Gosh where on earth do I start!! Let's see, this is gonna be a long post to catch up from December 3, 2010 to current and boy is there lots to talk about!!!

My new doctor (found her in September) is amazing. She has been working diligently on getting me straightened around. The new meds have helped with my Fibromyalgia which is a great thing. My flare ups are limited to once or twice a week instead of daily. With this the rest of my ailments that typically accompany FM have seemed to calm down as well.

Work is going good, I finally feel like I have command of my position and can handle anything.

My brother happened through Albuquerque on the 5th so I was thrilled to get to see him. We didn't have a lot of time to spend together but I enjoyed what time we did have. Here is a quick pic of him :)

December 6 I fell in a hole that the kids in the apartment complex had dug in the yard and was covered in leaves so I forgot about it. It was not a graceful fall by any means and we swore my ankle was broken, here is a quick pic of the baseball size knot that was on it but luckily was only sprained really bad:

The following weekend we went Christmas tree hunting as a family - me, Rob, Cait, Jeff, Dylan and Kelsey. Yep, the whole gang! Was weird having our kids with their significant others venturing out with us doing a family thing but it was great. I have to admit though, New Mexico Christmas trees leave a lot to be desired after being spoiled by Oregon trees!!! Here are some pics from our outing which included cooking lunch over a fire we built up in the woods and having smores!!!

Our new tree, Rob decided he was not satisfied with our Charlie Brown Christmas tree so he went to Lowe's or Home Depot and bought an Oregon tree and brought it home:

The kids (Cait, Dyl and Kelsey) decided they were gonna make Christmas cookies:

We got a little snow but not on Christmas day of course. Still to this day I can honestly say I don't remember having a white Christmas - yeah, I know my family in Texas will have a comment to let me know THEY have had a white Christmas the last two years since we moved away but meh!! LOL This pic was taken about 11 p.m. when the snow was really coming down:

Here are a couple pics of Cait and Jeff all gussied up - they went to California the week before Christmas as Jeff's buddy was getting married. Since I couldn't be there to see them all dressed up I made them give me a trial run LOL:

Jeff decided he was going to wear the Green Hornet glasses from when Chuck and Deb were here:

Christmas day was very quiet around our house. We opened a few presents and spent the day together as a family focusing more on "us" time than gifts which was very nice for a change!!! I feel Christmas has been commercialized way too much and while I love to give my kids something to make them happy we do that pretty much all year round so instead of focusing on gifts we focused on family and the reason for the season (yeah I know it sounds corny but hey, we enjoyed the day very much):

New Year's rolled around and we spent it with friends. Was a really nice evening and we met some new people that we are happy to call friends now! The kids went with us and boy did we have a spread of food!! Some awesome island food was provided along with sushi and I made my mother in laws awesome sweet and sour meatballs!!! Check out the food tables!!!

Our hosts and dear friends- Peter and Vannie. Rob and I both work with Peter and just love him and his wife. They are awesome people and we've had fun hanging out with them a few times now and even have Super Bowl Sunday invites:

January 1, 2011 rolled around and we found a new reason to celebrate:

Photobucket

Jeff asked Cait to marry him on 1/1/11!!! He is being deployed to Iraq in March and wanted to have the engagement done before he left. They are planning the wedding for late summer 2012 when he gets back from his 12 to 14 month tour of duty.

We have a new addition to the family. Her name is Harley but we lovingly call her the moose. She is a 6 month old lab mix and a real sweetie. Daisy has surprisingly taken right to her and plays good and hard which for Daisy is unusual because she is not a social puppy - she loves people but does not like any other dogs.

Harley and Daisy curled up on their daddy's lap:

Wasn't sure HOW this could be comfortable in any way but she slept like this for quite a while one night with Cait:

And then tonite while I was doing some crafting she decided to nap with her food bowl:

So, I told you this would be a long post!!! I have another post to make but want to keep it separate from this one since there is so much here to see because I don't want the next post to get lost in all this!!!

Thanks for stopping by and hopefully I have gotten out of my crafting slump so you'll be seeing more stuff from me again!!

Happy Scrappin' and Happy New Year!!!

Just to cover all bases...................

I am not the best scrapper out there. I don't claim to be totally original, I lift from many places and in many forms from color combinations, to product usage, to technique and so forth. I try to be fair to all scrappers out there and mention them when I lift from them - now keep in mind, there are so many people out there scrapping, card making and altering items that naturally more than one person will have similar ideas. When I mention lifting, or casing as some call it, I mean when you intentionally take a design you see and duplicate it exactly or only change up the coloring........KWIM???

With that said..........
